2008: The Sunday Salon – The Afraid of Stagnation Edition
I’m a day late here, but I figured that if I didn’t post today, I wouldn’t post another Sunday Salon until after Christmas! So here I am.
Reading has been slow in these parts. I’m a little over halfway through The Charlemagne Pursuit by Steve Berry, and I’m really hoping to get it finished before Sunday, when we leave for my parents’ house for Christmas. The book I have going on my phone is Claus by C. John Coombes, which is great but slow-going, as I pretty much only read it during my lunch break at work. The one bright light at the end of the tunnel is Dexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay, which I’ll finish listening to this evening on my way home from work. Unfortunately, it’s not the best Dexter book.
Speaking of the upcoming Christmas break, I’m debating how many books to bring with me to my mother’s house. I usually bring a stack of 3 or 4 for a week’s trip, but this year I’ll probably limit myself to one physical book, whatever one I have going when we leave on Sunday. The reader on my iPhone is great, and I’ve amassed a HUGE amount of eBooks (don’t ask), so I’ll probably never run out of stuff to read in that format. Plus, I can’t imagine I won’t get at least *one* book for Christmas!
It’s been about 4 months since I started pursuing ARCs and putting myself out there to accept books for review, and I’m just going to have to take a break! I have a HUGE backlog of stuff I need to read…. in addition to my monstrous personal TBR pile. The guilt level is rising high, so it’s going to be at least a month, maybe two, before I can let myself accept review copies again. It’s just not fair to those sending them to me!
For those of you out there who also accept review copies, how do you keep everything managed?
I think I’ve found a few more challenges to sign up for, look for posts on those coming soon!
Since this will probably be my last Salon post before Christmas, I hope everyone has a happy holiday!
I have an Excel file that I use to record my books. I list the title, author, date requested, date received, etc. It’s been a big help.
I might need to give that a shot! My separate piles just aren’t cutting it.
I can’t manage it. That’s why I cut WAY back on what I said “yes” to.
have a good break 🙂 i wish I had a reader on my phone like that… the screen on mine is too small 🙁
I too have a huge backlog of review books. Makes you feel dreadfully guilty doesn’t it?
