2018: #26 – A Drink Before the War (Dennis Lehane)

I’ve read a couple of Lehane’s books already, including a later book in this series, and so far I’ve liked everything I’ve read. This series has a nice noir feel to it, especially with the couple of private detectives having their office in the bell tower of a church. I like Kenzie and Gennaro’s relationship, complicated as it may be. I also like Kenzie’s gutsiness.

2018: #23 – One of Us is Lying (Karen M. McManus)

I thought this was really great, which should be evident by how quickly I read it (3 days). It starts out with five students serving detention one evening, but then one of them dies in a way that can’t quite be accidental. The characters start out rooted in their stereotypes — the smart one, the pretty one, the bad boy, the jock, and the outcast.
